SMART Notebook Math Tools Software (K-6)

SMART Board Fundamentals or equivalent in-depth SMART Board course

Intended Audience
This course is intended for any teacher who is teaching math to primary and junior grades. Participants should have attended Advanced Education’s Fundamentals course or a similar in-depth beginner training for SMART Boards. Previous experience with the SMART Math Tools is not required. Participants are encouraged to bring existing resources that they would like to modify or adapt to be used with a SMART Board.
Course Description
SMART Notebook Math Tools Software is the core component of this course, although time will be spent working with other math tools and features built into SMART Notebook software. The course starts with a quickly review the features and resources available in SMART Notebook and the SMART Board. We then evaluate existing SMART resources for interactivity, engagement, open-endedness, and differentiation. Participants will identify relevant resources and under the guidance of our SMART Certified Trainers develop SMART Notebook lessons that address curriculum expectations with hands on, interactive activities that allow for superior math instruction and exploration.
By the end of this course participants will be able to:
- integrate SMART Notebook functions into math lessons
- use the SMART Math Tools for primary and junior math instruction
- modify student-centered activities
- integrate math manipulatives and electronic manipulatives into lessons
- develop and locate resources to make learning more relevant and accessible to more students
- discern between good and excellent math lessons
- create math lessons that are tailored to the individual’s teaching style and needs of their students
