SMART Fundamentals

We designed the SMART Board Fundamentals workshop for novice SMART Board users, or users who have not attended an in-depth SMART professional development workshop.

We start by providing an experienced teacher and a maximum class size of eight participants. Each attendee has access to a laptop computer running SMART Notebook software and a SMART Board.

The Fundamentals session focuses on:

  • An overview of interactive learning and student engagement
  • Operation of the SMART Board
  • Discussion of learning styles and how the SMART Board can engage students
  • Using the SMART Board with web sites, and other computer applications
  • Features of SMART Notebook software
  • Strategies for using the SMART Board a teaching and learning tool
  • Organizing a SMART Notebook file
  • Accessing resources in the Educators' Gallery
  • Creating your own learning objects
  • Managing SMART Notebook files
  • Accessing, searching and downloading SMART lessons
  • Starting points for using the SMART Board and Notebook software
  • Development of a personal action plan

SMART Board Fundamentals, is a five and half hour hands on workshop with lots of time for hands on practice and note taking. We recommend that you bring along a lesson that you will be teaching in the immediate future so that we work on it together.
