SMART Response Interactive Student Response System Course

Professional Development Series

We designed the SMART Response Course using the premise "Assessment for Learning"

Anyone with a basic understanding of computers can attend this course but those with knowledge of SMART Notebook software will benefit most from the workshop.

An experienced education consultant from Advanced Education will lead the SMART Response session, which combines formal instruction with hands on learning. Small class sizes and a technology rich classroom guarantee that attendees have a superior learning experience.

The Using SMART Response version 2.x for Assessment workshop will focus on the following:

  • Diagnostic and formative assessment strategies
  • Managing the SMART Response interface
  • Working with class lists
  • Differentiating test questions
  • Types of questions
  • Creating test questions
  • Making use of existing tests and other resources
  • Making use of EQAO test questions as a class diagnostic
  • Working with the built in grade book feature
  • Disaggregating data,
  • Interpreting results
  • Strategies for following up with parents
  • Exporting results
  • Customizing tests for special needs students

The SMART Response Interactive Student Response System workshop is a five-hour hands-on workshop. After reviewing the basics of SMART Notebook Software the rest of the session focuses on using the power and potential of SMART Response to gain a better understanding of successes and challenges faced by your students. Participants will use SMART Notebook software and SMART Response to create at least one test that makes use of Differentiated Instruction and alternate assessment strategies. We recommend that you bring one or more tests from your class that can be turned into a SMART Notebook lesson. Participants will present their SMART Response assessment as part of the session.
