Reading Comprehension
Technology Supports:
- Focus attention on specific text and / or images by using the "Spotlight", "Shade Screen", or "Virtual Ruler" features of the SMART board
- Highlight key words with the colourful highlighters and pens found in SMART Notebook software
- Make text standout in Notebook software by changing the background colour
- Enlarge text and images to simplify reading and viewing
- Create "Drag and Drop" activities as a means of differentiating tasks while providing meaningful inclusion
- Place student writings and drawings under a document camera as exemplars
- Use the pull tabs to display information as needed or to create matching activities
- Create a daily schedule on the SMART board to help students remember routines
- Shared reading activity using any text and a document camera with or without a SMART board
Projecting reading comprehension exercises onto the SMART board enables students to participate in shared reading activities. The blue rectangle on the page above acts as a tracking guide while at the same time limiting the amount of visible text.
Projecting text and images from other resources with a document camera creates opportunity for class discussion, collaboration and as a result deeper meaning of a topic for students.
