Reading Comprehension

Technology Supports:

  • Focus attention on specific text and / or images by using the "Spotlight", "Shade Screen", or "Virtual Ruler" features of the SMART board
  • Highlight key words with the colourful highlighters and pens found in SMART Notebook software
  • Make text standout in Notebook software by changing the background colour
  • Enlarge text and images to simplify reading and viewing
  • Create "Drag and Drop" activities as a means of differentiating tasks while providing meaningful inclusion
  • Place student writings and drawings under a document camera as exemplars
  • Use the pull tabs to display information as needed or to create matching activities
  • Create a daily schedule on the SMART board to help students remember routines
  • Shared reading activity using any text and a document camera with or without a SMART board
Mobility Limitations

Projecting reading comprehension exercises onto the SMART board enables students to participate in shared reading activities. The blue rectangle on the page above acts as a tracking guide while at the same time limiting the amount of visible text.

Mobility Limitations

Projecting text and images from other resources with a document camera creates opportunity for class discussion, collaboration and as a result deeper meaning of a topic for students.
