KidsAbility

The Project

KidsAbility recently approached Advanced Education during our popular Discovery Series (link to disc series site), to inquire about our ability to demonstrate assistive technology to their staff and teachers.

Advanced’s Education Consultants (known as ECs) are former teachers with extensive classroom experience, including special education, and as such were excited to be part of this project and organized the demonstration event in conjunction with KidsAbility. The ECs demonstrated how the SMART Board and other SMART Technology Solutions could be used as assistive technology for children with disabilities and the positive effect it could have on their learning and development.

Together with Alex Dunn, a Speech Pathologist for the Upper Canada DSB, we introduced a study conducted by Upper Canada that observed how classroom technology can make a difference in special education learning, based on children with severe disabilities.

By presenting stories and video clips of the children involved in the project and explaining how their performance has improved with the use of a SMART Board, the staff at KidsAbility were able to see real life examples of how technology can assist special needs children.

We were also able to demonstrate several SMART Board tools that could be applied for Special Needs instruction, by using real classroom examples. The SMART Table was also introduced to the audience, with great impact. Teachers & kids were very excited with its capabilities for the K-3 grades.

Advanced Education is proud to have leaded this presentation at KidsAbility with the valuable contribution from our friends at Upper Canada DSB. Our aim at Advanced Education is to help learning institutions and educators find better ways to engage learning and develop instruction.
