Ronald McDonald House Toronto

The Project

Advanced was contacted by educators at Ronald McDonald House Toronto (RMH Toronto) who are responsible for providing educational support to children ranging from junior kindergarten to grade twelve from the twenty-eight families staying at the House. With all teaching and lesson plans following the Ontario curriculum, the educators were hoping to engage students of all ages and provide them with better visual stimuli in the classroom. The decision had been made to replace the school’s old whiteboard with an interactive SMART board, generously funded by United Way.

The educators were frustrated as they had ordered a SMART Board from an alternate source and had been patiently waiting for the product for a period of 8 months.

Advanced came to the rescue... Once this situation was acknowledged by the Advanced Education team and realizing the school was serving seriously ill children including some with special needs and their siblings, the technical crew immediately arranged for a SMART Board to be delivered and installed in the school at RMH Toronto.

Advanced also ensured the teacher / principal of the school received a QuickStart training session to familiarize themselves with their SMART Board. The teacher could not have been more ecstatic: "We’ve waited so long to have a SMART Board in our classroom...I can't say how pleased I am with the help and support Advanced has been giving us. My students are more interested and engaged; this is by far the best thing that has happened in our classroom. With the QuickStart session, I am now up to speed on how to create lessons and plan my activities. Thank you Advanced."

About Ronald McDonald House Toronto

Ronald McDonald House Toronto was built to enhance the quality of life for out-of-town families with seriously ill children through a caring and supportive "home away from home." The House is more than just a place for families to stay. It is a place for families to heal better – together. RMH Toronto strives to provide a sense of normalcy for children and families during a chaotic and traumatic time. The House is somewhere families can go about their regular routines – doing laundry, walking their kids to school, eating dinner as a family – as much as possible. The House offers families an atmosphere of compassion and understanding in a stressful and often frightening time. To find out more, visit rmhtoronto.org.
